Franc & Baby Pink release video for "Erykah & Red Wine"
By Benjamin Irons
This and That Media reps Franc (Francis Anyanjo) & Baby Pink (Matilda Vera) have joined forces to release their debut collaborative effort "Erykah & Red Wine", along with a visual accessory provided by Slackjaw Trait - the Bristol-based media channel's CEO.
The video, shot in London, documents the salad days of pairing artists Franc and Pink; what with a dazzling carousel parade and mellow display of neon theatre playing the greater part of setting the scene. It's vibrant, but it's also so laid-back. This kind of contrast is born largely out of Baby Pink's toned-down, spoken-word melody up against the bustle of London's early night-time economy shown throughout. Hints of AlunaGeorge and Banks, stripped-back, Franc's verse then switches the tone up, but keeps the affair between himself, Baby Pink, and the subtle pulse running underneath in absolute parallel from beginning to end; this collab is a match-made in heaven.
Though this is the first collab between the two artists, it's not the first time Franc has worked with Slackjaw shooting videos. Franc told TAO:
"The dude is a genius man, he has an insane eye"
with Pink adding:
"He's a crazy talent, especially with his ability to capture the exact image we want to put out, about the song and themes of the video"
The shots and choreography capture the track's carefree vibes perfectly, and when prompted about any future projects with Slackjaw, the pair responded:
"Definitely, the next few videos we have planned, collectively and individually, will be with him; it's literally a perfect match, he's got the look we've both been looking for"
That said, the two hinted at further entries as duo Franc & Baby Pink, disclosing that they're "currently working on something" for the near future. Watch this space. Seriously.
